Local students explore REID’s new £3.5m facility

REID Lifting, an award winning Chepstow success story, welcomed the opportunity to show local primary school children around their new £3.5 million facility in July.

Keen to develop strong links with the local community and to inspire the engineers of tomorrow, REID Lifting invited the children of Pembroke Primary School, Thornwell, to take a tour around their recently developed 45,000 sq. ft. facility.

Due to increasing success, and with the help of a Welsh Government Grant, REID has been able to build the larger, purpose built facility, four times the size of their current Newhouse Farm Industrial Estate facility, and plan to move later this year. This expansion has largely been driven by their need to meet rapidly growing demand following a significant increase in orders over the past two years.

REID’s Managing Director, Nick Battersby started off the student’s tour at the existing site, by introducing REID Lifting and by demonstrating the company’s innovative PORTA-GANTRY RAPIDE portable lifting crane. This ultra-light and rapidly deployable crane can be assembled in as little as 60 seconds and handles loads of up to 500kg. In order to stimulate their curiosity in engineering, the children had the opportunity to ask questions and to participate in a couple of competitions.

After touring the existing premises, it was time to take a look around the new facility. The children were given hard hats, high-visibility jackets and important health and safety instructions before being led around by Richard Joliffe, Construction Site Manager from Barnwood Construction.

With the new facility still under construction, Richard was able to clearly explain the building methods being used, how various pieces of equipment worked and what materials they were using. The students ended the day with an educational pack filled with REID fact sheets and stationary to take home with them.

REID would like to thank Pembroke Primary School for taking the time to visit the new facility, and hopes to continue building further relationships within the local community.
