REID and Certs Assured are looking to provide a solution for National Grid

National Grid own the electricity and gas transmission system within England and Wales. They require a rescue solution should anyone get into any difficulties 42m below ground level, which is where much of their operations take place.

REID Lifting are working with Certs Assured to help provide a personnel rescue lifting solution for them.

One of our engineers, Luke Rossiter, was able to visit a National Grid site in London to carry out a full demonstration of our products capabilities. We proposed a solution that included our PORTA-GANTRY RAPIDE, a double sheave carrier, 2x master link trollies for restraint purposes, a Harken LokHead winch, a Harken 40.2 ST winch, a Petzl ASAP Lock, a stretcher and a Milwaukee drill to power the winches.

As part of the demo, a dummy on a stretcher was lowered through the floor hatches. Two people who were lifting the floor slabs were attached to the PORTA-GANTRY RAPIDE in restraint via the master link trollies. The stretcher/dummy was attached to two separate lines, one static line coming from the Harken with a Petzl attached (to act as a fall prevention device), and the other coming from the Harken LokHead that was carrying out the lift. The dummy was then lifted 42m to ground level using tag lines to help guide the lift.

The demonstration went very well and proved to be a practical and feasible solution for the National Grid. We hope we can continue on this project and work with these excellent companies further in the future.
